Since it became known that Second Lady Karen Pence would be teaching at a Christian school that embraced a biblical view on human sexuality, she has been publicly lambasted as being intolerant and discriminating against the LGBTQ community.
It is ironic that those who accuse others of being intolerant and discriminating cannot do so without being so themselves. Our culture is growing increasingly intolerant of the biblical worldview and discriminating against those who believe it.
Lady Gaga who claims to have been raised in a Catholic home and to being a Christian, also claims to be bisexual and an ardent supporter of the LGBTQ movement. She called Vice-president Mike Pence “the worst representation of what it means to be a Christian.” Pence was also raised in a Catholic home and holds to a biblical worldview on human sexuality.
Pressure from the culture without and compromise from within the church.
My pastor has begun preaching a sermon series on the book of Revelation on Sunday mornings. This past Sunday morning he said the church today faces the same tensions as the first century church, “pressure from the culture without and compromise from within the church.”
The attacks on our vice-president and his wife from the secular media and a bisexual pop star are a case in point; believers attacked by an unbelieving media, and a singer who has compromised whatever faith she had for fleeting popularity.
This capitulation to cultural views on human sexuality and compromise of the Christian worldview is seen today in individuals, churches and whole denominations because they have forsaken the clear teaching of Scripture on the subject.
“If you love Me, you will keep My commandments,” John 14:15.
It was Jesus who said, “If you love Me, you will keep My commandments,” John 14:15. And to those who hold to His commandments on human sexuality despite the multitude of criticism, Jesus proclaimed, “Blessed are you when people insult you and persecute you, and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of Me,” Matthew 5:11.
One article said Pence and Lady Gaga represent the different Christian views on human sexuality calling Lady Gaga’s perspective “progressive.” When the term “progressive” is used in regards to Christianity it is usually an attempt to make an aberrant view of Christianity more palatable. Christian is itself a superlative and any attempt to modify its meaning apart from the biblical context misrepresents and adulterates it.
The warning to the church in Ephesus.
To those who betray Christ and His teachings I offer the same warning He gave to the church in Ephesus, “Therefore remember from where you have fallen, and repent and do the deeds you did at first; or else I am coming to you and will remove your lampstand out of its place, unless you repent,” Revelation 2:5.
It is neither unloving nor wrong to warn those in sin of its eventual consequences; it would be sinful and unloving not to. It would be foolish to base what one believes about what God says about human sexuality apart from what He has said in the Bible, and to embrace the self-serving theology of a bisexual pop star.
Excellent
