The Theory of Evolution (I use the word theory loosely here because it is not a very good theory) holds that every living thing is the random product of a mindless process that began by accident. I have not had anyone who holds to the Theory of Evolution and has considered it closely to disagree with that statement.
The idea of a random product of a mindless process that began by accident does not inspire a great deal of confidence in me as to the supposed science behind the Theory of Evolution. But atheistic scientists would rather believe that than accept the possibility of Intelligent Design because that would imply an Intelligent Designer.
Doctor Werner Gitt has written a fascinating book titled, “In the beginning was information: A Scientist Explains the Incredible Design in Nature.” The thesis of the book is quite simple. Every living thing has DNA and without DNA life cannot exist or replicate. So, in the beginning of life, whenever it began, there had to be the information that is encoded in each living thing’s DNA.
One strand of human DNA contains 3.2 billion base pairs, sets of genetic “letters,” that make up the human genome. “In order to list all those letters, a person would have to type 60 words per minute, 8 hours a day, for about 50 years!” And humans do not even have the most base pairs.
And this information is so intricately balanced if a base pair is missing, or out of place in the sequence of the DNA double helix, one base pair in 3.2 billion, a mutation in the organism occurs. And this DNA sequence is in every cell of the human body that consists of 28 to 36 trillion cells.
Dr. Gitt writes, “Because information is required for all life processes, it can be stated unequivocally that information is an essential characteristic of all life. All efforts to explain life processes in terms of physics and chemistry only will be unsuccessful. This is the fundamental problem confronting present-day biology, which is based on evolution.”
Many of you may not know who Anthony Flew was. He was a world renown atheist who died at 87. Before he died he authored a book, “There Is a God: How the World’s Most Notorious Atheist Changed his Mind.” When Flew was interviewed by Gary Habermas as to why he had changed his mind about the existence of God, Flew explained it was solely on the basis of the existence of DNA.
Flew said the existence of DNA and its complexity could not be explained as an accident. Since he was one who followed the evidence where it leads he concluded there must be an Intelligent Designer. He did not think the evolutionary idea that life began by accident was plausible.
Flew’s conversion to belief in God gives new meaning to the first words of the Bible, “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth,” Genesis 1:1. And when he created life there had to be information in the beginning.
This is incredible, Gary. WELL written.
