I will be honest, the only thing I know about Taylor Swift is what I read about in the news because I do not listen to her music. And she is in the news a lot. She is currently dating Travis Kelce who is a tight end with the Kansas City Chiefs, current winners of the Super Bowl. There is something about the two of them in the news every day.
Taylor Swift claims to be a Christian, but she supports the LBGTQ+ community and abortion rights. She has a song named “Karma” in which she says Karma is a God, among other things, and is laced with profanity. She dresses like the devil in one of her videos and TIME named her as person of the year for 2023.
Her fans are called “Swifties” and she is adored by girls all over the United States and the world and some of these girls who idolize her probably claim to be Christians as well. But I do not see anything Christian about her music or her beliefs.
Here is a news flash, not everyone who claims to be a Christian is one. I have never heard Taylor Swift testify as to when she repented of her sins and gave her life to Christ. I have never heard her talk about reading her Bible or where she goes to church. On the contrary, she seems to be lost in her own make believe world as to what she thinks a Christian is.
There are many celebrities like Taylor Swift who are lost in their own make believe world thinking themselves to be Christians when there is nothing about their lives that would bear that out. And like Taylor Swift they have a following of fans who are just as lost who idolize them.
The apostle James wrote, “What use is it, my brethren, if someone says he has faith but he has no works? Can that faith save him?” James 2:14. The simple truth is there is more to being a Christian than merely saying you are one. Genuine faith is accompanied by a life that shows it.
There is no one who is deceived that does not want to be deceived. If someone wants to think they are a Christian despite how they live their life and what the Bible says there is nothing stopping them from doing so, but it does not make it so.
It is more important to have one’s name written in the Lamb’s book of life than to be TIME’s person of the year.
