When Trump was asked recently about abortion he gave an answer that conservative supporters disliked. In a video message Trump said, “The Republican Party should always be on the side of the miracle of life, and the side of mothers, fathers and their beautiful babies … My view is, now that we have abortion where everyone wanted it from a legal standpoint, the states will determine by vote or legislation, or perhaps both. And whatever they decide must be the law of the land. In this case, the law of the state. Many states will be different. Many will have a different number of weeks, or some will have more conservative than others, and that’s what they will be. At the end of the day, this is all about the will of the people…”
Although Trump’s conservative appointments to the United States Supreme Court were key to overturning Roe v. Wade, he is now taking a more politically expedient view of abortion. Of course, the issue of abortion is more a moral issue for those opposed to it than what is politically expedient. Biden is all in on abortion without limits so the vote in November will be about the lesser of two evils.
I have not been fooled by Trump’s claims to Christianity. He has always been committed to what is self-serving when it comes to his politics. But his current position on abortion is being gradually accepted by his Republican colleagues up and down the line.
Anti-abortion foes have tried everything to block the spread of abortion since Roe v. Wade returned the issue of abortion to the state level. One articles claims, “Their array of tactics includes several bills and ballot measures that would raise the signature-gathering or vote threshold for changing state constitutions, lawsuits to block the initiatives, bureaucratic maneuvers to insert anti-abortion language into the proposals, and street-level confrontations to dissuade voters from signing petitions to put abortion on the ballot.”
All of these tactics seem to be failing to stop the pro-abortion activists. I firmly believe life should be protected from conception to the grave, but in a democracy the will of the majority will eventually prevail. I am not conceding to the pro-abortion forces, I am just recognizing the political realities we face in a culture that has forsaken God. Using the same political strategies of pro-abortionists is not working.
The best thing the church can do to reverse the pro-abortion tide is a renewed commitment to the spread of the Gospel. Changed hearts will save lives, anything less is a losing battle given the current cultural climate. The church needs to trust God for a revival to sweep our nation.
Russel from Abolitionist Rising just put out a video yesterday about this very topic – Trump vs. Biden in regards to abortion – morally no difference in reality. Trump would side with pro-lifers who seek limitations, Biden is pro-anytime for any reason. In reality, life should be protected from conception. There needs to be a change in the mind & heart regarding conception – it is a new life, not a medical condition. People want no consequences for promiscuous behavior- there should be a greater value placed on sexual activity. When people don’t respect their own body they will never respect the body inside their body.
Of course, you are right Lana, there is no difference between Biden and Trump on abortion. Trump has never been the Christian he claims to be, but people don’t seem to see that about him. And there does indeed need to be a change in heart regarding when life begins at conception. We need to pray because God is the only one who can turn things around now.
